Yvonne Louise Peterson

Yvonne Louise Peterson, born on May 25, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, in Fridley, Minnesota, with her family by her side.

In the words of her sons — Brent, Brian, and Robyn — she was the most amazing woman who ever walked this planet: “She taught us how to think beyond what we thought we were capable of, to grasp things we couldn’t yet comprehend, and to reach for anything even if it seemed impossible. And, maybe the most important, she had that kind of grit that made her never even think of giving up. We owe her everything, and we will always, always, always carry her with us.”

Yvonne embodied the always-present stay-at-home mom, and often found burning the midnight oil, or rising before dawn, to earn that little bit more we needed to have the life she wanted the family to have. It was that work ethic, also present in her devoted husband, Gerald, that they bestowed on their children.

After her children left home, she embarked on a new career as a teacher, making a significant impact on the lives of many students and teachers across various school districts and at the University of Minnesota. Her commitment to education and her unwavering support for the learning journey of others showcased her deep-rooted passion for nurturing young minds. Her colleagues and students alike will remember her kind spirit, patience, and encouragement that made learning a wonderful experience.

She is survived by her husband and their three sons, who feel a profound loss, but also are filled with the strength that she built within them. Yvonne also cherished her role as big sister to Cheryl Hill and David Luby, and as a grandmother of seven, never afraid to play dress-up, have her hair styled in silly ways, and just get down on the floor and play, while never missing an important event, be it a graduation, stage performance, or other milestone achievement, even if it meant flying around the country.

Yvonne's warmth, intelligence, and vibrant personality touched everyone she encountered. She will be deeply missed, but she has made an indelible mark in the heart and soul of everyone who was fortunate enough to have her in their life.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 7, with a visitation at 9:30 AM and the funeral service starting at 10:30 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church at 2848 County Rd H2 in Mounds View, Minnesota.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Messiah Lutheran Church in memory of Yvonne Peterson.
