Dahlbom, Victor Lester

Victor Lester Dahlbom was born to Carl and Mary Dahlbom on Feb 23, 1925 in Currie, Minnesota. Their family farmed in southern Minnesota and eventually moved to Dresser, Wisconsin. Victor was eager to start earning a living so he quit high school at age sixteen and went to work driving a milk truck. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944 – 1946. While in the Marines he worked as a radio man and driver aboard an amphibious landing craft. He was stationed in the South Pacific, traveling to Guadalcanal, Guam and Japan; he participated in the battle of Okinawa from April to June, 1945. He was proud to serve his country.

After the war he attended and graduated from Dunwoody Institute and then worked as an auto mechanic. Victor met Dorothy Carlson at the Marigold Ballroom in St. Paul and they married in 1947. They resided in Minneapolis until they moved to Fridley in 1957. He retired from FMC Corporation, where he worked as a machinist, in 1987. Victor was a graceful dancer and for years he and Dorothy went dancing to big band music every Sunday evening. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering with cars and spending time with his family. He died peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2020.

He is survived by daughters Carol (Keith) Ferenc of Milaca, Judy Anderson of Edina and Nancy Dahlbom of St. Paul; four grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan, Jenny and Eric; six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy, and his parents, brothers Gordon and Elmer, and sisters Vivian and Leona.
