Velma Farr

Velma Verree Farr (nee Whaley) passed away Dec 3 at the age of 91. She was born in Dent, MN, at the height of the Great Depression. Her earliest years were spent around Ottertail County. Her family faced the Depression with pluck and persistence which sometimes meant relocating where work was. They settled in permanently near Minneapolis, where later on a blind date she met her husband-to-be Lewis. 

Married in 1957, Velma was a homemaker while Lewis worked at Honeywell. They had 43 great years together. A wonderful mother, she had often said her greatest achievements were her husband and daughters. Many good times were spent with her large and loving extended family. She had been an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fridley, enjoyed being a grade school volunteer, and was a beloved fixture in her River Edge Way neighborhood. Some of her other interests included genealogy, crossword puzzles, and garage sales.

She is survived by her children Brenda (Ernie) Zelinka, Pam (John) Seals with granddaughter Piper, and Linda (Peter) Borman with granddaughter Kayla. As well as a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Ella Whaley, her husband Lewis, her brothers, brother-in-law, and sister-in-laws.

Velma was satisfied with what she had accomplished in this life, and was ready to move on to the next. A visitation for her will start at 10 am, with a service following at 11 am, Saturday December 14th at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley, MN 55432. She will be interred at Fort Snelling next to her husband Lewis at a later time.

Our family is grateful to the staff at Abbott Hospital that kept her comfortable during her short hospice stay. And for the several special caregivers that lovingly assisted her during the last seven years of her life.
