Tomas de la Pena Ramos (Tom) was born on March 1, 1947 in Manila, Philippines and passed away on May 21, 2015.
Tom and his sister Wilhelmina Rosario (Charito) lived in Manila with their extended family while their mother Willa Ramos and father Domingo Ramos lived in the United States. Domingo was the Personal Chef for the General Manager of the Great Northern Railway which was headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota.
On October 11, 1961, Willa and Domingo Ramos were excited that their children were arriving in the United States where they would live as a family in their first home at 319 Red Wing St, Duluth, Minnesota.
After Tom completed high school, he moved to Minneapolis where he studied electronics. Eventually the family would follow and take residence at their second home in Fridley, Minnesota.
Tom was handy and had a passion for fixing all things mechanical and electronic. He was known for fixing televisions, computers, radios, lawn mowers and snow blowers. Family and friends would call with a problem and Tom would say "just bring it over and I'll look at it" and he would fix it.
In his career, Tom worked at Honeywell, Gannett and Central Engineering as an electronic technician. It was while working at Honeywell in 1978 where he met his wife Mary Ellen Lembcke.
Tom and Mary spent many weekends at their trailer at Blue Waters Campground in Lindstrom, Minnesota. He loved to fish and catching bass and walleye were his favorites.
Tom also loved to watch the Minnesota sports team; Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, North Stars and Wild.
During the fall of 2014, Tom was having abdominal pains and went to see his family doctor. He was diagnosed with a tumor growing in his pancreas. Tom went through chemotherapy treatments but they didn't shrink the tumor and surgery wasn't an option. After the diagnosis Mary's sister Joanne Lembcke, an LPN, took a leave of absence to help Mary take care of Tom.
Tomas de la Pena Ramos is preceded in death by his father Domingo Ramos and mother Willa Ramos. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Mary Ramos, his sister Wilhelmina Rosario and (Steven); his son Shawn, daughters Angie, Toni , and Selena; also six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Joanne Lembcke for the countless hours she gave to take care of Tom.
Please join the family for some dessert and coffee. Thank you for attending.
