Teresa Sattler

November 6, 1960 — March 27, 2017

Teresa Sattler, 56, of Blaine, MN, passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2017. She was born November 6, 1960, and grew up in Bemidji, MN, the daughter of Walter and Carol (Depew) Nelson. She grew up with four brothers and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1978. Soon after, she began working in the insurance industry. She worked for State Farm insurance for 37 years, before retiring in October of 2016. She was a lover of many things, ranging from family and friends to birthdays, vacations and meeting new people.
Teresa met Greg Sattler while working at State Farm. He "talked at her through a window in Data Processing" for quite a while (because it was a one-way mirror and she couldn't see him) before he finally worked up the courage to ask her out. They spent many nights bowling with friends from work and one night, he asked her what she was doing for the rest of her life, thinking that any girl who was willing to watch the Twins and drink beers was worth keeping around. They were married on September 18, 1982, at the Como Zoo Conservatory. Teresa and Greg raised two children, Andy and Rachael, whom they took great pride in.
Teresa had a love of family that was obvious to anyone who met her. She was always bragging about her children, their spouses and her granddaughter. Spending time with family was something that made her undeniably happy. She loved planning weekends with those that she held the most dear, ranging from the activities they'd partake in to the snacks they'd eat. She loved her cat, Sassy, which sat on her lap every night on the couch and was her baby. It was a true animal love affair. She was also especially proud of and excited for visits from her grandpuppies, Lucy and Cal.
Teresa loved birthdays. Her birthday celebration, as well as anyone else's, started at least a week before and lasted the better part of a month. She spent a decent number of her birthdays celebrating in Las Vegas, which was her favorite vacation destination. She loved playing video poker for hours with a beer or a rum and coke while making a new friend. Within minutes of sitting down next to a new person, they knew her family, the number of times she'd been to Vegas, her birthday and random other facts you normally don't tell your new best friend. Not many people had the ability to outtalk Teresa.
Teresa was always there to lend a hand. She was quick to volunteer to crochet blankets for family and friends, especially when someone was expecting a new baby. In her years with the State Farm Catastrophe Team, she was always sad to miss the events celebrating family and friends. She was usually there to count things, though: the number of words completed in her puzzle books, days at different locations for work, the number of beers anyone else had consumed, cigarettes a stranger had smoked (though she didn't smoke herself) as well as the number of trips she took to Las Vegas with her family.
Teresa is survived by her husband of 34 years, Greg; son Andy (LeAnn) Sattler and daughter Rachael (Andrew) Spaniol; granddaughter Brynn Sattler; mother Carol Nelson; brothers Rick Nelson and Randy Nelson and numerous uncles, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Nelson; brothers Danny Nelson and Bradley Nelson and close family friend Robin Kilde.
