Sylvia Larson

October 19, 1918 — January 24, 2016

Sylvia Marie Larson, age 97 of Anoka, MN, died on January 24th, 2016. Sylvia was born to Walter and Anna (nee Hoppe) Ruckle on October 19, 1918, in Waverly, MN. When she was a young child her family moved to Ogilvie, MN where she was raised. She was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church of Howard Lake.

Sylvia was married to Edwin Larson on May 24, 1937 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogilvie, MN. They had 5 children: Lucille, Lloyd, Delores, Darrell, and Connie. They had 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. They raised their family in Howard Lake and in Spring Lake Park, MN.

Sylvia loved her husband, family, and numerous hobbies. She was an avid quilter, both for her family and with her quilting group at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, donating quilts to several charities in the Minneapolis area. Her skill of cake decorating brought her satisfaction, making many brides' and grooms' special day tasty and beautiful. It also led her to the path of owning Larson Creative Shoppe, a cake decorating supply store which she ran from her home. Sylvia enjoyed many other varied activities including crocheting, deer hunting, gardening, cookie baking, fishing, playing cards, traveling, and arts and crafts.

Her church was an important part of her life, whether she was organizing the church rummage sale, busy in the ladies guild, leading the quilters group, serving at funerals, going to Bible study, or worshipping on Sunday mornings.

Sylvia is survived by daughters, Lucille (Chuck) Grosch; Connie (Randy) Roiko; son, Darrell (Lois) Larson; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, LaVonne Robinson; brother, Sheldon Ruckle; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
