Steven C. Oropeza, 69 was born on October 1, 1955 in Kansas City, Kansas to John and Virginia (Diaz) Oropeza. Steven passed away on November 12, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.
Steven spent most of his early teens and into his 40’s in Chicago and is better known as ”Jerry” by his close family and friends back where he had the best times of his life. He could tell you stories that would go on for hours about all the fun and shenanigans he and his best friend and “attorney” Mr. Wedo would get into, which may or may not have involved coming up with ways to make an extra buck or two, legally of course!
He was a trailer mechanic for many years and enjoyed being around his family, playing poker, fishing, and joking around while having a nice cold beer. He loved his hobby of collecting all types of baseball, football and basketball cards, so much as to fill up a small bedroom full of cards from the floor to the ceiling. I am still surprised the floor never caved in from the weight.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia; brothers, John Oropeza Jr., Nick Oropeza; sisters, Alice Oropeza, Patsy Pourazari, Emily Light, Cheryl Smalley and Becky Oropeza. He is survived and deeply missed by his wife, Rebecca Oropeza of 48 years; children, Lisa (Brad) Johnson, Steven (Felicia) Oropeza, and Kelly Oropeza; 5 grandchildren, Meagan (Luis) Figueroa, Alejandro (Luz) Canchola, David Ortega, Adreana Oropeza, Emily Oropeza; 2 great grandchildren, Ophelia and Giovanni Figueroa. He is also survived by his siblings, Dolores (Eddie) Perez, Anthony (Carmen) Oropeza, Herlinda Hernandez, Sophia Crowley, Raymond (Pam) Oropeza; and many nieces and nephews.
