Sharon Georgene Ottinger Smitten passed away on August 12, 2023. She was born in Chaska , MN on May 10, 1933.
Sharon earned her teaching degree at St. Cloud State University. She was a beauty inside and out as she was Homecoming Queen at St. Cloud State 1953 and Waconia Dairy Days Queen 1955 and represented Waconia for Princess Kay of the Milky Way. She married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Smitten. They lived briefly in Inglewood CA, but soon moved back to MN to be closer to family, residing in Fridley, North Oaks, New Brighton, Minnetonka, Longville and Arden Hills.
She taught Kindergarten in Hibbing, MN and later 2nd and 5th grade at Turtle Lake Elementary in Shoreview MN. Mrs. Smitten (“That’s Mitten with an S in the front” she would teach) used her creative and expressive ways to teach her students, children and grandchildren making her a favorite of all.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Esther Ottinger; husband, Bob Smitten; and sisters, Onalee Sharp and Barbara Huwe. She is survived by children, Linda (Randy) Stroming, Kari (Chris) Peters, Bill (Kristina) Smitten, and Andy (Roxy) Smitten; grandchildren (and their spouses), Natalie, Libby, Dan, Caroline, Sally, Lauren, Max, Elizabeth and Addie; 11 great grandchildren; plus nieces and nephews.
Sharon loved the Lake, spending time entertaining friends and family. She was very creative and would often draw pictures for the children and grandchildren. She was well known for her blueberry buttermilk pancakes, homemade pizza, and Chicken and dumplings.
Sharon loved the Lord and was active in her churches Messiah Lutheran Mounds View and Salem Lutheran Longville. She was truly a daughter of the King. She loved her family, friends and neighbors and will be greatly missed.
Memorial Service will be held October 16th 11 AM with 10 AM reviewal at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2848 County Rd H2, Mounds View, MN. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Messiah Lutheran Church.
