Ruth Henarika DeMars passed away April 28th, 2012 after a full life at 90 years of age. She was born in the Krenz family home on Medicine Lake in Golden Valley, MN on February 22, 1922. Ruth was delivered with help from her grandmother, "Tillie"(Matilda) Krenz. She was one of 9 children born to August and Hazel Krenz. Eight of the nine children grew to adulthood. She is survived by Brother Kenneth Krenz and Sister Janice.
Ruth was the 3rd of 5 girls and enjoyed 2 older and 1 younger brothers. The siblings: Zada (Ed) Thayer, Gretchen (Art) Smith, Ellsworth (Marion) Krenz, Kenneth (Gen) Krenz, Ruth (Roy) DeMars, Charles (Sally) Krenz, Janice (Bill) Darlyne (Wally) Masica
Mom went to several grade schools: Pierce (N. E. Mpls.), Holland and Earl Brown. High Schools: Patrick Henry, North and Marshall where she graduated. Her best friends included Lenore, Veryle and her cousin Gladys Bruhn.
Mom married Roy DeMars on May 9th, 1941 at Aunt Gretchen's house in Anoka Minn. The Reverend O. A. Look officiated. We kids saw the scene repeated on the folk's 25thanniversary. Mom and Dad first lived at 4655 5thst. S.E. Jimmy was born in May of 1942.
Dad went into the army in 1945. Mom and Jimmy moved to Tacoma Wash. where Dad was first stationed. When Dad went overseas to Europe, Jimmy and Mom moved back to Mpls. Judy was born the following April. We lived upstairs from Grandpa and Grandma Krenz at 1091 17thAve. S.E.
In 1946 we moved to 1442 Mississippi St. in Fridley. Dad and Mom built the house themselves. In May of 1953 Roy jr. was born. We doubled the size of the house to accommodate the growing family.
Mom joined the Oak Grove Mother's club in 1950 and was a member nearly 50 years. While mostly a stay-at-home Mom, she worked part time at the corner dairy store. After Dad retired, Mom worked at Unity Hospital from which she retired in 1995.
Ruth remained at the family home until 2006 when she temporarily joined daughter, Judy, at a senior's apartment complex in Sleepy Eye, MN. She returned to her Fridley Home in 2007. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service 11 AM Wednesday, May 2 with visitation 1 hour prior at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley 763-571-1300.
