Ruth Blazei, of Columbia Heights, died at the age of 93. She was a long-time parishioner and volunteer at Immaculate Conception Church. Ruth impressed many with her patient, matriarchal leadership of a very large and growing family who surrounded her often throughout her life. Ruth was also well known for her dry sense of humor and quick-witted responses, true to her proud Irish heritage. In her free time she enjoyed sewing and demonstrated a keen card playing savvy. On a softer side, she had an underlying gift of blatant honesty and a demeanor of quiet, unassuming thoughtfulness. During the past decade she exhibited a resiliency to leave this world, fighting back from numerous health complications, finally passing in her sleep in the early morning of June 1, 2018.
Preceded in death by husband of 61 years, Roman, and brothers John and Thomas. She will be greatly missed by her 8 children: Lynne, Ken, Wayne, Alan, Terry, Mark, Mike and Annette; 19 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
