Ruby Oberg

Ruby Marie Oberg was born on October 31, 1920 to L. Albin and Nancy Forsberg in Comfort Township in Kanabec County, MN. She has one older brother Floyd and one younger brother Harold. After graduating from Braham High School in 1938, Ruby moved to Minneapolis and enrolled in the Minneapolis Business College. Upon graduation, she was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company.

Following World War II, she met George Oberg. George and Ruby were married on June 24, 1949. In 1953, they built their home at 2233 Cleveland St. NE. After George died in 1977, Ruby worked at Bethany Covenant Village for several years. In 2007, she moved out of her beloved home to join the community at Covenant Village of Golden Valley. Later that year, Ruby moved to Bethany Covenant Village where she lived until her death on February 24, 2012. George and Ruby have two children, Jim (Bea) and Jan (Steve Thoes) and five grandchildren.

Ruby enjoyed being in her kitchen and is remembered for a baked delicacy called "Swedish Toast" and "melt in one's mouth" sugar cookies. Growing and tending indoor plants was a favorite hobby of Ruby's, especially African Violets that were given to her by her mother and grandmother.

Ruby enjoyed picnics and often spoke about a 1925 car trip to California with her family and a 1986 trip to Sweden. Other vacations and trips to visit family were numerous.

She attended Salem Covenant Church throughout her years in Minneapolis and joined the congregation in 1949. She taught early childhood Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and participated in Covenant Women Ministries and Bible Studies. As a quiet follower of Jesus, she treasured time and opportunities to read scripture and devotionals and to pray.

Thank you God, for all the people who were part of her life and faith. We remember her with love.
