Rosa C. Palm, at 93 years of age, passed away at her home on December 22, 2016.
Rosa was born on June 30, 1923 in Milaca, Minnesota. She was one of six children born to Ernest and Clara Nelson. Rosa grew up on a farm in Milaca where she worked as a hired girl and made $2.00 a week. She came to St. Paul at the age of 16 and lived with a family whose wife was handicapped and they had six children. Rosa did everything in the home for them and made $3.00 a week. She did house work in Minneapolis for a while.
Rosa and Warren Palm met at a dance. She was there with her friend Mildred, and thought Warren was flirting with her friend. Warren asked her out for Saturday night, but she knew he didn't know where she lived so knew he wouldn't show up. He went and got her friend and she showed Warren where Rosa lived. The two were married on March 4, 1942 and Warren left for the Army in April of 1942. Rosa stayed in Minneapolis and was a hired girl for a family while Warren was overseas.
Rosa had a baby boy. He passed away when he was only 3 months old.
When warren came back from the war, they got an apartment. Rosa worked at the train station, rug factory and Honeywell. In 1950 they moved to Fridley, Minnesota. They had 4 children; Gerald, who died in infancy, Arlette, Duane and Donna. Later Rosa was a cook in the Fridley school system.
Rosa was a member of Redeemer Church, a Charter Member of VFW #363 Auxiliary and Fridley American Legion #303 Auxiliary.
Rosa could sew and figure out anything. She loved making quilts and gave one to every grandchild as they were married. She did a lot of needle work until her eyes got bad. She loved her vacations with her family and loved and enjoyed trips with her children.
Rosa was a hard working and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her spirit will live in the hearts of each and everyone she knew and our love for her lives forever. She will be missed by all who knew her.
