Roger L. Engstrom went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2023. He was 91 years old. He and his wife, Yvonne, resided in Fridley, MN. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna; father, Charles; and son, Paul.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; 3 sons, Dave (Elizabeth), James and Joel (Kimberly); brother, Glenn; 11 grandchildren, Rachel, Stephanie (Matt), Jenna (Tyler), Nick, Jennifer (Nick), Audra (Jamison), Madeline (Kemar), Caroline (Kyle), Benjamin, Seth and Emily; 6 great grandchildren, Ava, Colin, Alice, Walker, Eddie and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was born in Duluth, MN. He was a graduate of Morgan Park High School in Duluth.
Roger served in the Korean War from 1951-1954. He was proud to serve his country. He received several decorations, among which was the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. After his Korean War service, he received a BA and a Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota.
He spent most of his career working in Hennepin County Social Services until his retirement in 1994.
During his retirement, he was an avid traveler, golfer and spectator of the local sports teams.
He loved the Lord and gave much of his time to serving in the church on boards and as a teacher.
We will remember him for his loud voice, his gift of gab and his passion for meeting new people.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Saturday, June 3rd at Miller Funeral Home in Fridley. Visitation will begin at 10AM with service at 10:30 AM.
