Rodney Virgle Owens passed away unexpectedly at the age of 65, on Sunday April 15th 2012 at his home in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota, where he lived for 25 years. Rodney was born to parents Virgle and Elva on December 30th 1946 in French Camp, California. Upon graduating from Escalon High School in CA, Rodney enlisted in the United States Air Force. After 3 years stationed at the Air Force base in Wadena, MN he was transferred to Anchorage, AK for one year. Rodney was honorably discharged from the military in June 1969. He married Ruth Ament on the 26th of July, 1969 and settled in Circle Pines. After waiting 9 years for children, Rodney and Ruth adopted Todd on November 3, 1978, and 13 months later Jamie was born. Rodney worked as a dispatcher for Arsenal Sand and Gravel for 35 years before retiring in 2008. He was so proud to become a Grandpa to Miles Jay on August 7, 2009. Rodney had a love for; spending time with his children and their families, "his" pets, animals and nature, antiques, and visiting his mother in Arkansas. Rodney was preceded in death by his father Virgle Owens. He is survived by his mother Elva Edwards (Tom) of Imboden, AR; son Todd (Jerika) Owens of Spring Lake Park, daughter Jamie (AJ) Newton and grandson Miles of Golden Valley; ex wife Ruth Owens of Saint Louis Park; sisters Nina "Doll" Cox of Imboden, AR, Sherry Merrill of Oakdale, CA, Michelle Owens of Modesto, CA; brothers Bradley Owens of Oakdale, CA, Marty (Dana) Owens of Turlock, CA. Funeral Service 2:00 PM Friday in the Miller Funeral Home Chapel, 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley. Visitation Thursday from 5-8 PM and one hour prior to the service Friday.
