Robert (Bob) James Harnan, age 86, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019. His loving family surrounded him in care and compassion until his final breath; officially pronounced at 4:26 pm at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Robert Harnan was raised in both California and Rochester by his loving mother Ethel. As a young man, Bob was a highly skilled athlete, playing basketball for the United States Army, stationed in Germany; as well as playing basketball for Hamline University. After college, Robert met the love of his life, Margaret Galleger. On April 6,1955 he chose her as his wife and has loved her everyday after for the past 64 years. Together, Robert and Margaret raised a wonderful family, living in a quiet suburban home in Fridley, MN.
Robert Harnan is survived by his loving wife Margaret Harnan; as well as his four children: Roxanne (William) Halvorson, Elizabeth (Edward) Olson, Jim Harnan and Colleen (Michael) Nolde. Also loved and remembered by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Sara Halvorson (Kyle Burdick), Amanda Halvorson (Kenett Winters), Angaelicka (Travis) *Kelly, Payton & Brighton* Iverson, Andrew Olson, Eric Olson (Elise Williams), Robert Harnan (Beth Okrie), Stephanie (Nick) *Aksel* Gunderson, Alexandra Marie and Christine Nolde.
Preceded in death by his parents and sisters Helen and Joan. Funeral services will be held Friday, March, 22nd at St. Charles Borromeo in St. Anthony, Mn located at 2739 NE Stinson Pkwy, St Anthony, MN 55418. Family and friends are welcome for visitation beginning at 10 am. Mass will be at 11 am and a luncheon will held at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Robert’s name to the American Heart Association.
