Messer, Ralph William, age 78, of Fridley, passed away after a courageous battle with dementia. Ralph served on the Fridley Fire Department from 1968 to 2010. During his 42 years, he worked as a firefighter, fire instructor, created and served as a rental housing program administrator, before becoming the Fire Marshal in 2001 where he served until his retirement. It is with profound sadness that we notify you of the passing of our father, Ralph Messer. He passed away January 7th around 9:15AM after a long courageous battle with Dementia and Pneumonia. We would like to thank Allina Hospice for the amazing care of Dad for the last 10 days and all the staff at Home Instead Health care, you all are gifts to your professions. Special thank you Kevin Stewart, and the Fridley Public Safety Division and Allina Senior Health Co-Care for your presence and kindness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Virginia Messer. He will be deeply missed by his children, Lara Messer (Steven Honse), Todd Messer (Kathy), Walter Messer (Jessica); 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; siblings, Richard Messer (Ronnie) of St. Albans, VT, Linda Richards (Reggie) of LaFayette, CO; 2 nieces, 2 nephews; many relatives, good friends and his four legged buddy "Junior". Visitation 4-8PM Friday, January 24th at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley. Funeral Service 11am Saturday, January 25th at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1200 Marquette Avenue, Minneapolis. Visitation at church 1 hour before service. Private interment.
