Phyllis Lillian Holmstrom age 90 of Blaine, formerly of Des Moines, IA, passed away February 3, 2012. Preceded in death by husband, Rev. Oscar Alfred; premature infant son, Gordon Alfred; parents, Henry and Lillian Johnson; sister, Doris Barg; brothers, Lloyd and Russell Johnson; sister-in-law, Myrtle Roen; and nephew, Gailon Roen. Survived by step niece, Karen Olson and husband, Marvin of Roseville; nieces, nephews and many friends. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. Des Moines, IA. Phyllis was born on February 10, 1921 in Rockford, Illinois. She was a 1939 graduate of Rockford Senior High School. Phyllis had a variety of employment. She worked in the billing and accounting office for Deere & Webber Co. of Minneapolis; inspect and pack at Anderson Brass Shops of Rockford, Illinois; food service for Bishops Cafeteria in Des Monies, Iowa; and laundry supervisor for Scottish Rite Park Health Care Center of Des Monies, Iowa. She was United in marriage to Rev. Oscar Alfred Holmstrom of Rice Lake, Wisconsin on December 4, 1948 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After pasturing several churches in Wisconsin, Oscar and Phyllis assisted in ministries in Bedford, Ohio and Ventura, California. They moved to Des Monies, Iowa in 1956 where they resided for about 32 years, being active members of Calvary Assembly of God Church. Oscar passed away on February 5, 1988 after a lengthy illness. In 1990, Phyllis moved to Minnesota to be closer to her sister, Doris and husband Alvin Barg of Mounds View and their family. Phyllis has been a resident of Blaine Courts Senior Residence in Blaine since February of 1994, where she had been happily enjoying retirement in a friendly and caring environment. Phyllis had an appreciation for meaningful poetry, music, art and correspondence with long-time friends into the second and third generations. She loved to read and enjoyed the activities at Blaine Courts.
