Phyllis Heutmaker

May 3, 1936 — June 11, 2018

Cologne

Heutmaker, Phyllis age 82, of Fridley, passed away on June 11, 2018  after a valiant nine-year battle with cancer. Preceded in death by parents Henry and Clara Eiden, brother Maurice “Maury” Eiden (Dalys Jean), sisters Mary-Ann Wodnick (Jim), and Marge Woychick (John), husband Herschel Heutmaker. Survived by children Michael (Pam), Sandy (Bruce), Norman, and Brent; grandchildren, Chris, Andy (Stephanie), Rachel (Brandon), Ross (Christie), Tommy, and Jonathan (Hande); great-grandson, Leon; brother Claude (Carol); many other relatives and friends. The Catholic Church was always a big part of her life. That devotion ranged from attending Catholic school in Cologne to volunteering for many years in the community through St. Williams Church in Fridley. She served meals at Loaves and Fishes for twenty years, delivered Meals on Wheels, and helped at countless funerals. Phyllis Eiden graduated from Norwood Central High School and married Herschel Heutmaker on June 22, 1957 in Cologne, MN. The couple raised their family in St. Louis Park, Roseville, and Fridley. From 1961 to 1972, they enjoyed having Vikings season tickets. Another event that the entire family enjoyed for many years was an annual summer meeting for Hersch’s business (ANWI) held at Madden’s. As the children got older, Hersch introduced Phyllis to the game of golf, which and it  became a lifelong hobby that she sometimes seemed to play in worse weather than those old Vikings games at the Met. After Hersch’s death in 1983, Phyllis went on to make many new friends in the community. Along with her good friend Gloria Magness, Phyllis was a member of the Cultured Pearls, a group of widows that attended area events and provided each other friendship and support for many years. Gloria and Phyllis also vacationed together many times. Saturday morning shopping with her good friend Mitz Ritter was another fixture. She made many new friends playing three times a week in City of Mpls women’s golf leagues at Francis A. Gross and Columbia golf courses golf courses. For many years, she would also play golf with her sister Marge and brother in law Marge and John Woychick at Lakeview Golf Course in Mound. Even at one of the most difficult times of her illness, she she was still cheering for Phil Mickelson during a recent televised golf tournament. The family would like to thank Dr. Joy Anderson for the early diagnosis, providing us with many extra years with Mom that we might not have gotten otherwise. The family also wishes to thank  Dr. David King and his staff for all of their efforts over the past nine years. J.A. Wedum Hospice was also a source of great comfort. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 11 am with visitation one hour prior at the Church of St. William, 6120 – 5th St. NE, Fridley. Internment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
