Biography of Patricia Ordner:
Patricia Ann Ordner was born September 11, 1934, to Frances B. Nelson and Alvin Bonnick, in Minneapolis Minnesota. She was an only child. Her father left when she was two years old. Her mother went to work as a waitress at the Pine Tavern restaurant in Minneapolis so Pat was raised primarily by her grandmother, Veronica Kovinsky.
After high school, Pat attended the College of Saint Catherine and earned her degree in nursing. Her first job was working at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis as a registered nurse in the pediatric department. She then went on to have 20+year career as an emergency department nurse at both North Memorial Hospital and Unity Hospital Pat than worked for Minnesota Gastroenterology doing endoscopy’s for 11 years until she retired in 1997.
On a picnic to Taylors Falls for young Catholic single adults who belonged to Saint Lawrence Catholic Church, Pat met a young man named James Ordner. They dated for a while and then were married on June 6, 1959 at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church. Their honeymoon consisted of a trip to Duluth and then off to New York and Niagara Falls.
Jim and Pat had four children: Diane, Linda, Daniel and Gregg. They raised their children primarily in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, and were very involved in Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church. Pat was part of the ladies auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus. However, Jim’s job took them out of state and she lived in Illinois, Iowa and Missouri for a short time. But, Minnesota was home.
Pat enjoyed playing bridge with friends and neighbors, summer vacations with the family to various resorts in Northern Minnesota where Jim was playing in a golf tournament, relaxing at their place at Pathfinder Village in Hinckley Minnesota, traveling to different catholic shrines throughout the United States, and visiting Gregg and his family in Florida.
When grandchildren came around, Pat was thrilled and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed babysitting the grandkids, having them up to their place at Pathfinder Village, and going to their events. She treasured these times with all her grandkids.
When Pat and Jim sold their house in Brooklyn Center, they moved to a Senior living community in Columbia Heights. They lived there for several years until Jim passed away unexpectedly in 2017. Pat then moved in with her daughter Diane until 2020, when she needed more care and became a resident of Catholic Eldercare. She had a lovely room with a view of the gardens in the atrium. Pat enjoyed watching the birds come to the birdfeeder outside her window, watching television, especially EWTN and golf, reading cozy mystery books, playing scratch offs, saying her prayers, sending and receiving cards from family and friends and visits with her children.
Pat passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022.
