.Opal was born in Temple City, California to Aaron & Florentine Locke.
When she was 16 she traveled from Pasadena, CA to visit her sister, Ruby and her husband,
living on a farm outside of Glenburn, ND. While on that visit she met her future husband while
running an errand to the Post Office in Glenburn. On January 14, 1943, at the age of 17, Opal
married Howard Walton in Pasedena, California, then returned to North Dakota, settling down
on his family farm SE of Glenburn. They proceeded to have seven children before hard times
drove them to move to Minot, ND in 1965. Spring Lake Park, MN became their home in 1967.
Opal was Born Again under the preaching of J. Vernon McGee as a teenager.
She took care of Pastor McGee's wife when the McGee's lost
their first child In birth. Opal, out of obedience after she believed, was
baptized by immersion at the Glenburn Baptist Church and joined there as a
member at that time. Opal sang many hymns both at church and in our home
through their years on the farm, in Minot, and in Minneapolis. She was
very hospitable, inviting church friends living on the Minot Air Force Base, in for meals and
sharing her fresh baked goods with them plus having believers at her table
through the years. She was a jovial wife and mother who showed her faith
in much that she did.
