The Mortrud family announce with great sorrow the passing of their father, Mitchell, who
passed away peacefully on July 2, 2022 at his home in Mounds View, MN.
Mitch was born in Spring Valley, MN on May 1, 1957 to Vernon and Doris (Koop)
Mortrud. He graduated from Spring Valley High School where he was a member of the
wrestling team and played drums in band. During school Mitch worked for Busters
grocery store in the meat processing department and at the Spring Valley Tribune as a
printer. After graduating from high school, he moved to Chattanooga, TN to work for his
Uncle Stan in the maintenance department at Lomenick Apartments. In 1984 he went
into business with his father and brother Monte doing home remodeling.
In 1991 he moved to Minneapolis suburb where he remained.
He retired from Target Distribution Center. Mitch was born with a sweet and kind soul, a heart of gold, a big smile for everyone he
met and was always a joy to be around. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, hunting, fishing and motorcycling.
His greatest passion was hanging out with his family and friends.
He was greatly loved and will be missed by the many friends he met
throughout his life time. Mitch was the loving Father of Brandon (April) Mortrud of Wykoff, MN and Justin Mortrud of Coon Rapids, MN, brother of Mark Mortrud of Minneapolis, MN, Marty Mortrud of Seattle, WA, Murry (Teresa) Mortrud of East Bethel, MN, Matthew Mortrud of Minneapolis, MN and Michael (Lisa) Mortrud of Los Angeles, CA. Uncle of Kevin, Patrick, Tyler, Christopher, Amber, Kaitland, Jeremy, Austin, Kayla, Greg and Nancy and great uncle of many. Former husband of Linda Gehrking. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Monte and Sister-in-Law Rosemary.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 8, 2022 at Bowlero, 11351 Ulysses Street NE, Blaine, MN from 1:00-3:30 p.m.
Inurnment will be held privately at Roselawn Cemetery, Roseville, MN.
In Lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice in memory of Mitch would be appreciated.
