Michael J. “Mike” Young was born to Mathias & Alvina Young in St. Paul, MN, the fifth of six children. He graduated from Cretin High School in 1967, where he played hockey.
Drafted in 1969, Mike served honorably in the US Army in Vietnam. After returning home, he attended St. Paul Technical Vocational Institute, where his greatest accomplishment was meeting and marrying the prettiest girl in the world, Deborah Ann Klein.
Mike spent the majority of his career in the commercial trucking industry, both as a driver and in management. He enjoyed golfing (he could boast a hole-in-one!), bowling, and fishing, spending countless wonderful fishing trips with his lifelong friends. He also enjoyed playing cribbage for “Georgies,” and was the instigator of many backyard water fights with the grandkids.
Mike passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Jungbauer.
Mike is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Deb, his daughters Jennifer (Gary) and Katherine (Darren), and grandchildren Evan & Nathan Carney and Judah & Josiah Spell. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy (Buckingham), John, James, and Cathy (Nonus).
“Mighty Mike” overcame many adversities in life, and he will be missed dearly by all who loved him.
