Mavis E. Hauge (nee Carson), age 82 of Fridley. Preceded in death by parents Florence and Carl Carson, brothers Wally and Raymond Carson and sister Carol Neer, and son Douglas Hauge. Mavis was born in Killdeer, ND. She grew up on a ranch in Gassy Butte, ND. She graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing from Jamestown College. She moved to Minneapolis, where she met Carrol Hauge, an engineer. There were married April 6, 1957.
Mavis started her nursing career as a psychiatric nurse at Homewood Hospital. After a brief break in her nursing career when her children were young, she joined the staff at the newly opened Unity Hospital as an emergency department nurse. She then became night supervisor, working her way up to become director of nursing for many years, retiring in 2001. One of her major accomplishments was helping to implement the first clinical computer system on the patient care wards at Unity Hospital.
Mavis was a long-time member of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, serving on many different committees and as a Sunday morning greeter until shortly before her death. After retirement, she volunteered as an office assistant in Fridley Middle School. Throughout her life, she enjoyed baking and sewing, especially in doing these activities with her children and grandchildren. She took great pleasure in flower gardening, with their yard in Fridley always one of the most colorful on the block.
Mavis is survived by Carrol, her husband of 61 years, and daughter Yvonne Datta (Milton) and Darrell Hauge (Amy), as well as four grandchildren, Taylor and Carson Hauge, and Kristen and Lauren Datta; also many nieces, nephews, and grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews.
The funeral service is Saturday 4/7 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior at St. Philip's Lutheran Church, 6180 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley, MN. Internment Morningside Memorial Gardens ,Coon Rapids. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the St. Philip's Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
