Mary Spiczka, age 97 of Bloomington, MN, passed away on March 4, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She lived a long, full life before willingly entering the kingdom of her Heavenly Father.
Mary was born on May 28, 1926, in Morrison County, Minnesota, the ninth of sixteen children: she was one of five girls and eleven boys born to Frank and Gertrude Fussy. The children of the Fussy family included Clara, Joe, Robert, Irene, Art, Roman, Clarence, Alfred, Mary, Frank Jr., Lawrence, Gertie, Jerome, Bill, Richard, and Dolores.
Mary lived a full and blessed life. After getting to know Florian at church and working together, they married and started their own loving family. After getting married, Mary and Florian started their life together in New Mexico as Florian continued serving in the Air Force. They made Roswell their first home, where four of their sons were born---James, Robert, Donald, and Gerald. Military life kept them on the move, but Mary adapted well. In 1955, Florian's Air Force service took them clear across the country to Bangor, Maine. It was there at Dow Air Force Base that their fifth son, Larry, was born.
After Florian's retirement from the Air Force, Mary and Florian set down roots in Minnesota. After years of frequent moves for Florian's military career, they could finally establish a permanent home. Later in this phase, Mary and Florian welcomed their youngest daughter, Ann Marie.
Mary supported Florian's military service, moving and starting over each time. Mary's family brought her immense happiness, and she took great pride in all their accomplishments. Mary always made time for family gatherings and special occasions, showing incredible devotion to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Although Mary faced the inevitable sorrow of losing her husband and three sons over the years, her deep faith supported her. She knew God welcomed her husband and three sons into His heavenly kingdom. Mary's kindness, strength, humor, and care for family will remain treasured memories.
Even though Mary will be greatly missed, she leaves with the assurance that her family will find solace in one another. As one chapter closes, her story continues through the generations she leaves behind. Mary touched many lives over nearly a century. The fullness of her spirit endures and inspires those who remember her.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Florian J. Spiczka, and three of her sons---James Spiczka, Robert Spiczka, and Donald Spiczka. She leaves behind her son Gerald Spiczka (Sandy), son Larry Spiczka (Donna), daughter in law Arlene Spiczka and daughter Ann Marie Aubitz (Brian). Mary also leaves behind many treasured grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. John the Baptist Church in New Brighton on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11am with visitation one hour prior. Mary's final resting place will be Fort Snelling Cemetery.
