Mally Smith, born July 25, 1928, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on May 18, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jane, sons Greg (Almida), Scott (Neysa), daughters Nora (Jim Schmidt), Jill (Dave Raymond), twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Mally was a WWII United States Army veteran. He graduated from Carlton College and later earned a master’s degree in Education from the University of Minnesota. He first taught in the Northfield Public Schools as well as the Oak Park-River Forest, Illinois Public Schools. After that, he became an Assistant Principal at St. Anthony Village High School, where he later taught 9th Grade Civics and coached several sports until his retirement.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Anthony Park Home and Grace Hospice for the loving care they provided to Mally over the last 15 months. We will be forever grateful.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior at Salem Covenant Church, 2655 5th St. NW in New Brighton, MN. A luncheon will follow. A private burial will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Memorials preferred to the family, which will be used to further the work of “Foundation For His Ministry” in Oaxaca, Mexico (where granddaughter Annie Schmidt is Sponsorship Coordinator) and “A’KALA Family Foundation” serving the people of San Lucas, Guatemala (granddaughter Mallory Raymond is a Board member).
