Lois Brakke

Lois Skarnagel Brakke
92, passed away on June 12, 2022. Lois was born on July 16, 1929, on the Skarnagel farm near Veblen, SD.
One of her greatest enjoyments in life was music. She sang in the Veblen HS choir. She instilled an appreciation of music in her children by having them take piano and band lessons.
After high school Lois attended Northern Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD. She began teaching in a one room country school near Veblen. Lois & Earl Brakke were married April 7, 1950. They made their home on the L. C. Brakke homesteaded (1900) farm, Havana ND. After Earl passed away in 1965, Lois managed the farm.
She was secretary for the Immanuel Lutheran Church and Cemetery for 65 years. Lois was known for her exceptional cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, love of family, & devotion to her farm & faith.  Lois' late life companion was Del Hortness. They enjoyed attending music and sporting events, & listening to music. Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Earl & two brothers. She is survived by her children, Sharon Christensen, Marilyn Brakke, & Tami Kastner of MN; LeAnn Brakke Hoehle, AL; & Erling Brakke, TX; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters & a brother.
A graveside service will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Havana, ND, located by the family farm, at a later date.
