On Friday, May 21, 2010, the Lord Jesus Christ called Leland "Sonny" Lloyd Pettit, Jr. home to heaven. Sonny was born in Minneapolis on November 9, 1944, the son of Leland "Ole" and Dorothy A. (Ostlund) Pettit, Sr. He was a baptized member of Cokato Baptist Church as a child. He spent his childhood years growing up in Howard Lake, MN and graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1962. After graduation he went to work in Minneapolis for Globe Tool and Die. He attended trade school at Dunwoody Institute and Anoka Technical College. On September 7, 1963, he united in marriage to Doris Zander at St. John's Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter. The Pettit's made their home in Brooklyn Center for the past 37 years and were long time members of Discover Church in Brooklyn Park where he served his Lord faithfully year after year. Sonny worked until the time of his home going at ICA Corporation in Dayton, MN as a machinist. Previous to this employment he worked at Gresen MFG for 39 years until the company moved out of state. Sonny enjoyed people of all ages and loved to include all in his special interests of hunting, fishing and game playing. He loved camping and traveling with his wife. He had a servant's heart and found many ways to meet the needs of those who needed help, and he was especially fond of his family and enjoyed spending time with all of them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Dorothy Pettit, and his brother-in-law Don Johnson. Sonny is dearly missed by his wife Doris, of 46 years; his daughter Christel (David) Bauers; his grandchildren Moriah, Alexander, Victoria, Jeremiah and Katrina Bauers; along with 4 sisters, their families and many other family and friends.
