Goodspeed, Laurence "Larry"
was born in Anoka on May 7, 1933 and passed away at the age of 83 on March 29, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Lucy Goodspeed and son, Steven, sisters Lucy Marks and Kathleen Gundlach. Larry is survived by wife, Elna and sons Brian Goodspeed and Kevin Goodspeed; daughter Laura Goodspeed (Karen Cook) and grandson Michael Crawford, and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was a graduate of Anoka High School and then served in Army Security from 1951 – 1954. After that he received his BA from St John's University in Collegeville. He was employed as a social worker for 35 years at Anoka, Ramsey and Hennepin Counties and retired from Hennepin County Social Services in 1994.
He loved a good round of golf and looked forward to playing bridge three to four times a week. His very favorite activity was what some call fishing. He called it "drowning worms." If he caught a fish he released it. He loved the relaxation he got from this until his asthma kept him in. He knew many bird calls and confused a few unsuspecting cardinals.
Larry was a very gentle person with great patience and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered for his kindness and keen sense of social justice
