Manby, John Edward, age 89 of St. Anthony, formerly of Maple Grove and Denver, Colorado, passed away January 26, 2013. John served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II aboard the heavy crusier USS Louisville. The Louisville was involved in many Pacific battles including the battle of Surigao Straits where it fired 37, 8", nine gun salvos at a Japanese Battleship helping to sink it. John was awarded A Purple Heart for wounds sustained in a kamikaze attack on the ship. After the war John attended the University of Minnesota for four years. He was employed at Mark Hurd Mapping Co. for seven years and at IDS Financial Services for 27 years as a graphic arts specialist. He is preceded in death by his father, Jocelyn and his mother, Genevive. He is survived by a few cousins and friends. Memorial service Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM with visitation 1 hour prior at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley. 763-571-1300. Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Mpls., MN.
