It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of John "Chris" Knoff, age 73, who left us peacefully on August 28, 2024. Chris fought a valiant battle against cancer with every opportunity open to him and for as long as possible. He liked to say he was playing a game of whack-a-mole in the hopes to have more time, but also to hopefully better the lives and outcomes for the future cancer patients.
Chris loved working with his hands. As owner of Welch Construction, he masterfully crafted everything from custom installations for commercial buildings to home renovations. He was also an accomplished fine artist in multiple different media. Chris spent his early retirement years painting, traveling for humanitarian missions, camping, and long-distance biking. In his last few years, reading and Sumi-e painting, time at the cabin, and spending quality time with family and friends were his treasured pursuits.
Chris was a man who was always ready to lend a hand, loved a good party and the absurd. He especially enjoyed making people laugh. He is survived by wife, Marjorie van der Hagen; daughters Jennifer (Bob) Kaplan, Elaine (Preston) Lougheed; grandchildren Mason, Parker, Naomi, Bella; and sister Karen Knoff; and nieces Mathea and Malena (Leo). His passion for music, art and all manner of fun and games will be forever remembered.
We welcome all who knew him to join us in celebrating his life and spirit at Robbinsdale Parkway United Church of Christ on Friday, September 20th at 2:00 pm. The family of John wishes to thank providers and staff at North Memorial Cancer Center for providing such dedicated care.
