In Loving Memory of Jerry Koffi Havon
September 5, 1966 – February 14, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jerry Koffi Havon, who left this world on February 14, 2025, at the age of 58. Born on September 5, 1966, in Lomé, Togo, Jerry’s life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Jerry was a man of boundless generosity, known for his persevering spirit and infectious laughter. He had a unique ability to bring people together, and his deep compassion for others was evident in both his personal life and professional career. As a dedicated nurse and home care provider, he touched countless lives, particularly in the mental health community, where he helped hundreds of individuals reach their full potential.
His commitment to service extended beyond his profession—he was always willing to lend a helping hand, dedicating countless hours to charitable causes. The Ewe Association of Minnesota was especially close to his heart. He devoted himself to attending meetings, organizing events, and speaking passionately about its mission. Jerry’s selflessness and devotion left an indelible mark on all who knew him, and his legacy is one of love, kindness, and a life well lived in service to others.
Jerry came to the United States in 1988 as an international exchange student. In 1993, while working at a nursing home, he met Laura, the love of his life. They married on April 27, 1996, and built a life together rooted in love and mutual support. In May 2001, Jerry proudly became a U.S. citizen, embracing his adopted country while remaining deeply connected to his roots in Togo and Ghana. He pursued multiple careers as a nurse, realtor, and CEO of First Choice Nursing and Home Care, all while making Minnesota his home for the majority of his adult life.
Beyond his professional and community work, Jerry cherished life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed long walks on the weekends, tackling odd projects, working on cars, gardening, and indulging in his favorite treat—ice cream. He was a lover of music, with a deep appreciation for Prince, Michael Jackson, Mandisa, and numerous Ghanaian and African spiritual artists. A man of deep faith, he found strength in prayer and sought to share his love of learning with those around him.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Laura, and his cherished daughters, Amanda (28), Alexa (23), and Ava (13). He is also survived by his loving sister, Lawrencia Havon, and her children, Ezekiel and Anastasia, as well as his cousin, Chris, whom he helped gain citizenship and who worked alongside him in managing his business.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paulina Aurelia Legba of Togo and Paul Hiameko Havon of Ghana.
His extended family includes his mother-in-law, Madeline (Renstrom) Radtke; his brothers-in-law, Leon (Lisa) and their children, Steven and Scott; and his sister-in-law, Kristen, along with her significant other, Kyle. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Radtke-Renstrom family in America, as well as countless beloved family members in Ghana and Togo, all of whom were deeply touched by his love and generosity.
As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his remarkable life—a life dedicated to faith, family, and the service of others.
