James Purdham

February 10, 1955 — September 4, 2012

Purdham, Rev. James Wesley Bruss "Jim"
Age 57, of Fridley, died unexpectedly September 4, 2012. Loving husband and father, brother and son, he has begun his new life surrounded by the love of the Lord. Jim reveled in life. As a United Methodist minister for 30 years, he served churches in Winona, Waterville/Cannonville, St. Paul, Harmony, Waseca, Sargeant/Brownsdale/Lansing and Moundsview. In addition to the formal ministry, he loved serving as a camp leader in the north woods working with young adults and the developmentally disabled and a counselor to those needing a listening ear and an understanding heart. Over the years he was a swimmer, photographer, actor, dancer, and Tai Chi aficionado with a passion for service to others. His happiest moments were with his family, whether on their travel adventures or relaxing at home. He is survived by his wife Cindy; his daughters Katie and Laura; his parents Rev. Charles and Alice Purdham; his mother-in-law Jean Bruss; his sister Lois (Solon) Kidane, his brother David (Mary); his brothers-in-law Jerry (Carla), Daniel (Bonnie), Steven (Becky); numerous nephews, nieces and friends throughout the world. Preceded in death by father-in-law Gerald Bruss and brother-in-law Michael Bruss. We will miss him deeply. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Sunrise United Methodist Church, 7687 Long Lake Road, Mounds View, Saturday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm in the Miller Funeral Home Chapel, 6210 Hwy 65 NE Fridley and continue with visitation one hour prior to service.
