Jacqueline Lee (nee Burwell) "Jackie" McIntyre

June 29, 1931 — January 18, 2025

Minneapolis

McIntyre (nee Burwell) Jacquelaine L. age 93 of Mpls, died peacefully January 18, 2025. Jackie was born in St. Paul and grew up in Lake Johanna, MN. She attended District #20 primary school and graduated from Murray High School (’49). This past fall she attended her 75th class reunion. In May of ’53 she married the love of her life, Thomas McIntyre, a handsome Navy man and veteran of WWII. Tom passed away shortly after they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They had a wonderful life together. They enjoyed traveling the U.S. and their time at Coon Lake. Jackie had several different jobs but found a talent for book keeping and worked for 30+ years on meat row in Mpls. Tom and Jackie had no children but had many dogs. Their pride and joy were their German Shepherds. The love they had for these amazing dogs led them to “adopt” a platoon of soldiers during the Vietnam War, the 101st Airborne 42nd Infantry Platoon Scout Dog unit. Checkout the website they created: 42nd-ipsd.freeservers.com. They sent written correspondence, dog treats, people treats, magazines, etc. to the soldiers. They sent pictures and letters to her and Tom in return. They all knew her as 42nd Mom. She saved everything she received from “her boys.” Her archives were meticulously curated and organized into albums. This was a labor of love and patriotism. A true treasure; pictorial and written accounts by soldiers who were there. Twenty some years after the war, Jackie wondered how her boys were doing. So this 61 year old woman started searching, which was a lot of work. Despite the lack of the luxury of internet, Jackie found almost 95% of her soldiers. She organized three reunions in Branson, MO with incredible attendance. She was thrilled to reconnect with the soldiers in person. She remained in touch with many of them through her final days. Email, phone calls, Xmas cards and even some surprise visits. They love her and will miss her. May she rest in peace. Services will be held at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley on Tues, Jan 28th.. Visitation 10am. Service 11am. Luncheon to follow.
