Irene Gomoll

December 12, 1928 — October 11, 2015

Irene Delores Gomoll was born in Crookston, Minnesota, on 12 December 1928, the fourth child of Eugene Oliver Holt and Magna Skudfred (Falk) Holt. Her older siblings were Lester, Archie, and Olive. Irene attended school through the eighth grade.

She moved to the Twin Cities with her parents, and met her future husband, Stanley Virgil Gomoll, at the Pastime Roller Rink in St Louis Park. They were married on 12 May 1951. They built their house at 1042 90th Lane in Blaine, where they lived together until Stan's death on 27 October 1998. Three children were born to their family: Roger, Dale, and Susan.

Her husband Stan was a pilot for Northwest Airlines, and they took every opportunity to travel to Hawaii and Asia as a couple and with family and friends. Irene was very proud of her family, including her three grandchildren: Dale Lee, son of Dale, and Holly and Abigale, daughters of Susan and Bob Bodene, and her many great-grandchildren. Irene carried photographs of her family and would show them to anyone willing to look.

Irene was a gifted seamstress and did alterations from her home for many customers. She enjoyed bowling and league play at Maple Lanes and competed in many tournaments in the Twin Cities and in cities around the country. Irene supported her husband's passion for antique aircraft by joining him and many friends at the annual Oshkosh Fly-In, and hosted annual Christmas parties in their hangar at Anoka County airport for members of the Vintage Aircraft Association Chapter 2.

In 2011 Irene moved from her Blaine home of 57 years to Oak Crest Senior Living in Spring Lake Park. She loved to play Scrabble, 500, and dominoes with her friends there, and enjoyed watching baseball on the television. In July 2015 she moved a few miles down the road to Bel Rae Senior Living in Mounds View for memory care.

Irene passed away peacefully on 11 October 2015. She was a strong woman, fiercely proud of her Norwegian heritage, and is already missed by her family and friends.
