Gloria Duvernay

Gloria Maxine Tilleskjor Duvernay was born to deaf parents, Guy and Marie Tilleskjor June 13, 1931.  She left this world for a better world on March 20, 2019.  Gloria was preceded in death by husband, Robert William Duvernay; parents, Guy and Marie Tilleskjor; son-in-law, Richard Stratton; and other family and friends.

Gloria is survived by daughter, Marcia Stratton Petrescue (Bernie); son, David William; daughter, Charlotte Faye; four grandsons, Guy (Kat) Duvernay, Jason (Aurelia) Stratton, Andrew (Rachel) Sjodin, and Jonathan (Susie) Stratton; two granddaughters, Leatha Duvernay and Amelia (Pat) Cameron; six great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters, and one great-great-granddaughter; brothers, Darrell (Colleen) Tilleskjor, Kerwin (Wanda) Tilleskjor; sisters, Lorraine Smrcka, Daria (Wayne); several nieces and nephews.

Gloria graduated from Anoka High School in 1949, and then attended one year at North Central Bible College (now North Central University) where she met her future husband, Robert Duvernay and got her MRS after getting married May 24, 1952.  These were Glorias own words, "I started searching for spiritual reality when I was just a child, wondering where I would go if I should die. My Aunt Gerda sparked my interest by giving me a Christian novel as a confirmation gift.", and as she put it "still searching for answers."
Gloria served 22 years at Spring Lake Park Assembly of God Church ( now Pleasant View Deaf Assembly of God) as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School secretary, mission promoter,nursery photographer and Church book keeper.  Later attending Emmanuel Christian Center she was again Sunday School secretary, helped in the kitchen and worked with M.O.P.S ( Mothers of preschool children).  She also served as a volunteer at Unity Hospital and did several years of caring for mentally and physically challenged foster children in her home.

Gloria was creative and artistic. She enjoyed doing crafts, crochet, cross stitching, puzzles, photography, reading, crossword puzzles,playing board games and bicycle riding.  She loved trying new recipes and cooking for family and friends. She loved to write, send and receive letters. The high point of many of her days was walking out to the Mailbox and receiving a letter in the mail.

Gloria was a hard worker; cooking, cleaning, ironing clothes and working in the garden. She loved cats, but even more so, she loved and cherished her family, friends, and relatives.  But most importantly she loved God. She had a very steadfast walk with her Lord and Savior. She did not waiver from her faith and always set a great example to all who knew her.  She will be greatly missed.

Funeral service, Saturday (3/30) - 2 PM with visitation one hour prior at Pleasant View Deaf Assembly of God Church, 7901 Pleasant View Dr. NE, Spring Lake Park.  Interment Twitchell Cemetery, Lino Lake.
