Jerry, age 89, of Blaine, MN, passed away peacefully from a sudden illness on Thursday, July 11, 2024, surrounded by family. Jerry was born in Grantsburg, WI, on April 29, 1935, to parents Martin and Myrtle. He was an only child and spent a lot of time helping his aunts and uncle on the Dahle Family farm. Jerry loved sports and played baseball, football, and basketball throughout his high school years. He was a great athlete and was often recognized in the local paper, especially in basketball. After high school, Jerry attended UW-River Falls before enlisting in the Army. After being stationed in Germany for two years, he moved to the Twin Cities where he began working as a quality technician and engineer. Over the years Jerry worked for various manufacturing companies and retired from Control Data.
Jerry met his wife Deanna in Minneapolis, and they were married in 1965. They moved to Fridley, MN where they had two daughters, Debbie, and Pam.
Jerry was a big Minnesota sports fan and loved watching Vikings, Gophers, and Twins games. He also enjoyed gardening, spending time with family, going to the cabin, fishing trips, and golfing with his lifelong Grantsburg friends. Another hobby Jerry enjoyed was repairing and calibrating precision tools on his workbench in the basement. In recent years Jerry loved watching his grandson, Matt, play football, and participating in the Honor Flight – Twin Cities as a Korean War Veteran, with his daughter Pam. Jerry and Deanna moved to the Blaine, MN area in 2022.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Deanna; daughters, Debbie (Dan) and Pam; grandson, Matt; and many loving relatives and friends.
He will be remembered as a kind, caring, and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
The family would like to thank the caring and supportive staff at Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids, MN and J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park, MN.
The funeral service will be Thursday, July 25, at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley, MN 55432. Visitation will be at 1:00pm with the service at 2:00pm. A private interment will be held at Fort Snelling on a later date.
