George Green

Green, George E. age 84 of Fridley was born in Willmar, Minnesota. He enjoyed spending summers at the family cabin his father built on nearby Green Lake. After graduating from Willmar High School in 1948, he worked for the Great Northern Railroad on the building and bridge crew. He was injured on the job and sought other employment.

George was influenced by one of his uncles, Eugene, a barber in Sioux Falls, SD, so he moved to Minneapolis to attend barber school in 1951. After graduation and a few months of real-world experience cutting hair in Minneapolis, he returned to Willmar cutting hair for the next four years. He returned to the Minneapolis area for good in 1956 as a barber; for a short time he also sold barber supplies to barber shops for Ritter Co.

He owned a barber shop in South Minneapolis from 1961 - 65 then worked at a barber shop in Fridley near his home for the next few years. His career then took him to a barber shop in Coon Rapids, which he purchased in 1973 and sold in 1995. During his retirement, he oftentimes filled-in for other barbers.

George married Irene Gruber in May 1959 in Minneapolis. They had four children and now have 8 grandchildren. They vacationed every summer at northern Minnesota resorts until they purchased a summer cabin in 1989 on East Fox Lake near Fifty Lakes. George's hobbies have been golfing, fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time at the lake.

Preceded in death by parents, George and Mavis; cousin, Clarence Norland. Survived by wife, Irene; children, Diane (Randy) Olds, Ron (Karen), Doug, Tom; grandchildren, Ashley, Kelsey and Brittany Olds, Michael, Megan and Justin Green, Nicole and Alex Green.

Visitation 5-7 PM Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley, 763-571-1300. Mass of Christian Burial Wed., 10:30 A.M. with visitation 1 hour prior at the Church of St. William, 6120 - 5th St. NE, Fridley. Interment St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Schieldsville, MN.
