Frederick Arthur Sarette, age 79, of Fridley, passed away on March 3rd. Fred was educated at Cloquet High School and at the University of Minnesota. He proudly served for several years in the United States Air Force, stationed mostly in England, before going on to a lengthy career in the early computer industry. Fred worked at Collins Radio, IBM, and Control Data. He ended his career working in technical marketing at Cray Research. In his younger days he was a programmer, and he would tell stories about punch card confusion and massive power outages caused by early vacuum tube mainframes. Throughout his life Fred was an enthusiastic shooter, an expert
marksman with the Colt 1911, and he competed frequently on trap teams in the Minneapolis area. He was also an extremely prolific reader, and was a lifelong habitual visitor of area libraries. Preceded in death by loving wife of 50 years, Arella; parents William and Elizabeth; brothers Peter and William; and sister Katherine. Survived by sons Mark (Stacy), Steven (Cindy), and Richard; five granddaughters and one grandson. Mass of Christain Burial, Tuesday, March 11, 2014, 11:00 am, with visitation one hour earlier at the Church of St. William, 6120 5th Street Northeast, Fridley. Visitation also 5pm-8pm Monday with 7 pm vigil prayer at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Highway 65 NE Fridley (763) 571-1300. Internment St. John's Cemetery, New Brighton. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
