Razza Dei Ciurri
(Race of the Curly Heads)
Fred was born in Chisholm, MN in 1924. He was one of five children , Romaldo Lautizi, Florence Marturano, Phyllis Antognozzi and Dionilla Valentini, born to Nazzareno and Fondina Lautizi.
As a youth Fred played sports i.e. football, gymnastics, track & field and street hockey. He worked as a paper boy and attended Chisholm High School.
At the age of 17 Fred enlisted in the Navy during WWII where he was commissioned to a submarine. Fred became a Morris Code sender and receiver known as a Sparky. Later he was commissioned to an Aircraft Carrier the U.S.S. Hancock.
After the war Fred was able to enjoy hunting and fishing on the Iron Range where he soon became a Stone Mason learning from his good friend Ed Simon's. He later took his trade to the Twin Cities where he married, moved to Fridley and had three children Theresa, Steven and David.
Fred went on to raise his children with a deeply passionate heart. He was someone that always knew what it was that he loved and held fast in his loyalty to those loves throughout his whole life.
Perhaps Fred's second love and greatest interest in life was sports. He loved Gopher Hockey; holding his seat at Williams/Mariucci Arena for over 46 years. Fred rarely missed a game with his close friends Dick Nord, Jack Saccoman and Mary and Jerry Ingaldson. When unable to attend, they were all over at Fred's watching the game on his big screen T.V.
Fred was a member of the Men's Club at Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake for 40+ years. He golfed 3 days a week with the 400 Group right up until the fall of 2011 at the age of 87.
Family and sporting events were the context for many of the memories Fred, his family and friends shared together.
He will be remembered as a caring and loving Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and good friend.
Perhaps the most apt way to end the story of Fred is to say "Fore!" and "Go Gophers!"
Survived by children Terri (Scott Martin) Adams, Steve (Tammy), DJ (Cheryl Koch); grandchildren Cori (Nate) Johnson, Brianna, Jorden & Julia; 2 great grandchildren Paige & Taylor; siblings Roms, Di, Florence (Paul) & Phyllis; many other relatives & friends.
