Emily Dykhoff, 87, peacefully entered Eternal Life on January 7, 2018, at Unity Hospital in Fridley following a stroke. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Emily was born August 22, 1930, on her grandparents' farm in rural Raleigh, Grant County, North Dakota, the second of five children of John and Molly (Tishmack) Grosz. She moved to Minneapolis in 1956 where she met the love of her life, Martin Dykhoff, at a dance. They married April 27, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Church in Columbia Heights. Three sons were born to Martin and Emily: Robert in 1958, Martin in 1960, and Donald in 1962. Martin and Emily raised their family in Fridley. Emily worked for about 20 years at the Holiday Plus store (now Cub). In their younger days, they enjoyed camping and snowmobile trips to Yellowstone. A few years following Martin's death on January 11, 1996, Emily moved to a townhouse in Blaine and then to her final home at Edgewood Senior Living.
The three most important things in Emily's life were Faith, Family and Friends. Emily loved the Lord and looked forward to the day when she would meet Him in Heaven. She couldn't have been more proud of her three sons, their wives, and her four grandchildren: Daniel, Jason, Scott and Laura. We always said that Emily had more friends than anyone else we'd ever met. People seemed to gravitate to Emily, and she had a way of making everyone feel special and as if they were her favorite person. She was always full of mischief and there are many stories of fun times spent with friends. Emily tested for and received her driver's license in 2000 when she was 70 years old! She was more than a little proud of the fact that for about 10 years she could drive and be independent. She loved to bake cookies and breads and pies for family and friends.
Emily is survived by her family: Robert; Martin and Toni, and grandsons, Daniel and Jason and step-grandchilden Amanda and Nicholas; and Donald and Judy, and grandchildren, Scott and Laura. Also survived by her brother Ed Grosz, brother-in-law Ronald Goeb, and many special nieces and nephews and cousins and friends.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents, John and Molly Grosz, and siblings Dean, Eddie and Lena, and her nephew Dustin and niece Brenda, and other beloved friends and family.
We will miss her generous spirit, her love of family, and unwavering faith in God. She said that she will always be with us. We know Emily lives on through our cherished memories of her.
