Dwight "Dewey" Johnson

April 24, 1953 — November 20, 2017

Dwight "Dewey" W. Johnson, 64 of Edina, passed away on Nov. 20 of Lou Gehrig's disease. Preceded in death by parents, Curtiss D. and Lorraine Johnson. Dewey was the co-owner of Security Development Company, a shopping center and management company.  He graduated from Minnehaha Academy, where he was named Athlete of the Year and was later inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.  He received a B.A. from St. Cloud State University where he spent a memorable year living in Fredericia, Denmark.  He later received a Master's degree in Urban Planning from Mankato State University.  He was an avid tennis player at the Edina Country Club, basketball referee, hockey dad/grandfather and lake enthusiast where he shared many fond memories on Lake Le Homme Dieu in Alexandria.  He is survived by his wife, Kate, sons Nate and Matt (Kelsey) Johnson; grandchildren Gavin and Harper, his sister Bonnie (Bryce) Nelson of Seattle, WA and his brother Bruce (Patty) Johnson of Westlake Village, CA. Memorial service Friday Dec. 1, 10:30 AM at Christ Presbyterian Church of Edina, 6901 Normandale Road.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Christ Presbyterian Church of Edina or Minnehaha Academy
