Dorothy Elizabeth Dahlbom was born to Axel and Edith Carlson on May 4, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she grew up and graduated from Edison High School. In 1944 she completed nurses' training at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and became a registered nurse. She served in the Army Nurse Corps from February 1945 – June 1946. While in the Army she was stationed in the Philippine Islands. She was united in marriage to Victor Dahlbom in 1947 and they resided in Minneapolis until they moved to Fridley in 1957. She retired from Hennepin County Medical Center in 1987. She enjoyed fishing, cheering on the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, working on her scrapbooks and photo albums, doing crossword puzzles, socializing and spending time with her family. For many years she served as the class historian, bookkeeper and reunion organizer for the Swedish Hospital class of 1944 alumnae. Dorothy was a charter member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church in Fridley. She died peacefully at home on Friday, June 17, 2011.
She is survived by husband Victor; daughters Carol (Keith) Ferenc of Milaca, Judy Anderson of Apple Valley, and Nancy (Randy Libersky) Dahlbom of New Brighton; four grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan, Jenny and Eric; three great-grandchildren, Grace, Teja and Logan; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Gladys Cook and Florence Johnson, and nephew Greg Cook.
