Doris T. Mayers , Watermelon, 79, beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend was called to her eternal resting place on November 10, 2023 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Doris was born on October 1, 1944 in Melrose, Minnesota to John and Marie (Rosen) Thell. She grew up on a family farm in Grey Eagle, MN. She was a graduate of Grey Eagle High School in 1962. After graduation, she worked at First National Bank in Minneapolis. In 1965, she married Hilary Mayers at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, MN. In 1967, they moved into their first home in Fridley, MN where they welcomed their daughter Lisa. In 1969, they welcomed their second daughter Lori and in 1971 their son Leon was born. Doris did in-home daycare for teachers in the Fridley school district while raising her family. She worked at Simer Pump, Lee Wards Craft Store, and in 2007, she retired from Totino Grace Retreat Center after 23 years working in food service and hospitality. She was an active member of The Church of St. William. Doris was a Eucharistic minister, attended Thursday prayer group and volunteered for funerals. She loved her family and enjoyed get-togethers. Her passion was cooking, baking, sewing, Wednesday bowling league, making tie blankets and inspirational art creations to give to friends and family as gifts. Doris was a sweet, gentle and loving soul who loved her family deeply. Her family was her world. She was kind and funny and loved to laugh.
She is survived by her husband, Hilary: children, Lisa (Tom) Schloegl, Lori (Al) Koester, Leon Mayers (Julie Schmidtke); four granddaughters, Sarah (Andrew) Ostendorf, Amanda Koester, Emily Koester and Jayla Schloegl; 2 great-grandchildren, Rilynn, Theo, and another due in December; siblings, Alice (Tom) Wiechmann-Studer, Arnie (Betty) Thell, Jim Thell, Karen (Bob) Weidner. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by parents, John and Marie Thell; sister, Rosie Ostendorf; brother-in-law, Rich Wiechmann.
Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, November 21st, 11:00am with visitation one hour prior at St. Williams Catholic Church, 6120 - 5th St. NE , Fridley and luncheon to follow in Keefe Hall lower level. Friends are welcome to go to the cemetery at Morningside Memorial Gardens in Coon Rapids, MN.
