Lundstrom, David Lee
Age 74, of New Brighton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 21. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara (nee Gravel), and his three children: Lori Lundstrom of NE MPLS (Eric Pierson); Timothy Lundstrom of New Brighton; and Paula Lundstrom of Columbia Heights. He was the 4th of seven children born to George LeRoy and Louise Lundstrom of Milaca, MN. He is survived by one brother and 3 sisters. David graduated from Milaca High School in 1955, and was president of the student council as well as a member of the Milaca basketball team, which won the district championship in the same year. After serving briefly in the Air Force in Texas, he attended the University of Minnesota, graduating from the College of Mortuary Science in 1959. David purchased "James Ambulance & Livery" in 1962, from which he serviced several hospitals and funeral homes in the Minneapolis area. His limousine service provided transportation to numerous entertainers and dignitaries from the era such as the Beatles, the Monkees, the Dave Clark Five, Dean Martin, and Jack Benny. In 1964, he expanded his operation and purchased "Olsen Ambulance," from which he also acquired the ambulance contract for the Minnesota State Fair. After selling his ambulance business in 1968, David worked on and off in the funeral industry until 1996. Until 2005, he remained busy working various post-retirement jobs, pursuing the hobbies he loved and participating in his bowling league. David was truly a people person who could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had an unlimited reserve of stories to tell, and an uncanny ability to tell them. His beaming smile and joie de vivre will be truly missed by his family and the many friends who knew him. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
