Coverston, Clem Z. Jr. Age 92, passed Sat. March 28, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clem Z. Coverston Sr. and Cora E. Alexander Smith Coverston, and his brother Jim Coverston, and half-siblings Alice, Fred, Henry, David, Earl and Ed Smith. He was married to Eva Ahlman and was blessed with three children: Pamela (Vern) Harris, Cathy (David) Anderson, and Daniel (Trish) Coverston. His grandchildren are Mike (Kim) Harris, Jenny (Scott) Scanlon, Katherine, Carter and Jacob Anderson, Tyler (Chelsea) Coverston, and Bethany Coverston. There are also four great-grandchildren: Nathan and Evan Harris, and Matthew and Jacob Coverston. Clem graduated from Motley High School, St. Cloud State University, Mankato State University, and later the University of Minnesota with his Doctorate in Education. His teaching career began in Springfield, MN, Lake Mills, Iowa, and then Columbia Heights in 1961 where he was a Jr. High Counselor and became the Asst. Principal from '71-'76, Asst Principal at the High School '77-'79, and Principal '80-'89. Upon retiring in '89 he was able to pursue his favorite hobbies of golf and making sculptures of bronze or stone. He was a member of MASSP, Kiwanis, and also served in many roles in St. Philip's Lutheran Church, Fridley, MN. Clem served in the Merchant Marine 1945-46, and the Army 511th Parachute Inf. Regiment, 11th Airborne Div., 1946-48. Memorial service will be held at St. Philips Lutheran Church, Fridley, Saturday Oct. 17 at 1PM. Service will be live streamed. Masks are required.
