Mrs. Christina Margaret "Marge" (Balog) Johnson of Blaine, MN died peacefully at Unity Hospital on September 25th 2016 in Fridley, MN at the age of 96.
Marge is preceded in death by her husband Harold E. Johnson, parents Ignatius "Ike" and Bertha (Lehman) Balog, and brothers Harold and Willard Balog. She is survived by siblings Helen (Balog) Hutchison and Donna (Balog) Lystig. Children Charlotte Johnson, Harold "Doc" (Marlene) Johnson, Sandra (Gary) Palmer, Sheila (Lee) Geisler, Wayne "Butch" (Karen) Johnson, Russell Johnson. Grandchildren Wade (Julie) Johnson, Devan Johnson, and Hilary (Brian) Johnson; Rodney (Tammy) Turcotte, Raina (Paul) Wendt, Scott Turcotte; Lisa (Lance) Huston, Denise (Chris) Miranda, Colleen Preston. Kimberly Johnson, Jason (Lisa) Johnson, Cody (Rachel) Johnson; and 18 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Great Great-Grandchildren. And special family friend Shirley Morrissette.
Marge was born on October 24th 1919 in Hillsdale Twp WI to Ignatius "Ike" and Bertha (Lehman) Balog. She grew up in Hillsdale Twp and attended Nelson-Dewey School in Maple Grove Twp. She was an excellent cook and was full of stories about growing up on the farm and living through the Great Depression. She met her husband Harold Johnson (of Danbury WI) in Webb Lake WI while working at a resort together; they eventually moved to Minneapolis and married on April 4th, 1940. They raised 6 children together and spent their free time traveling and running a dry-cleaning business in their later years. Marge enjoyed making jams and jellies, spending time with her grand-kids, and sharing coffee with the many friends who would stop by.
Marge loved fishing, sewing, reading books and poetry, and could talk about family history for hours. She was mentally sharp until the very end, and could recall names and places from her childhood with ease.
Visitation from 5-7pm Wed, Sept 28 at Miller Funeral Home 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley as well as one hour prior to the service at church. Funeral service 11AM Thurs, Sept 29 at Family of Christ Lutheran Church, 16345 Polk St, Ham Lake. Interment Fort Snelling.
