Betty J. Erickson, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2023. Betty was born March 30, 1924 in Minneapolis to Lillian and Harry Osborne. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1942. Betty joined the Women’s Army Corps in May 1944, had basic training in Des Moines, and then was stationed at Barksdale Field, Louisiana working as a clerk typist there until December 1945. When Betty returned home she took a keypunch operator course and worked at Northern States Power. She married Lawrence (Lorry) Erickson in May 1948, and they eventually moved to Blaine. Betty was a wonderful mom to sons Gary (Deb), Larry, and daughter Janice (Bob) Nelson. Betty and Lorry divorced in 1968. She continued to work at keypunching at Control Data Corp., and retired in 1989 from the Twin City Army Ammunition Plan after working there 27 years. Several years after retirement, Betty moved to Arden Hills where she lived for 26 years and gained many new friends. Betty was the lucky grandmother to 6 beautiful grandchildren and 7 lively great-grandchildren. In her lifetime, Betty was an avid bowler, enjoyed golf, walking, baking, knitting, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Farkle, cribbage, and any kind of card game. No family gathering was complete without a game of some kind being played. She loved ballroom dancing and excelled at it. Betty is preceded in death by her beloved sister Lorraine. Betty will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her brother Wayne (Gloria) Osborne, and other family and friends. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1900 7th St. N.W., New Brighton.
