Alyce (Larson) Hawkinson, known for her gifts of music, hospitality and deep commitment to the church, died Wednesday. She was 81. A memorial service will be held at Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton, MN, at 1 p.m. Friday, February 6.
Alyce was born May 27, 1933, in Kansas City, MO. She studied at the Kansas City Conservatory of Music and later at North Park College. There she met Jim Hawkinson, who was attending seminary. He was a musical soloist, and Alyce quickly became his accompanist.
They were married June 11, 1954. The couple went on to a rich life in ministry serving a number of Evangelical Covenant Churches in Connecticut, Illinois, California and Minnesota. In 1970 Jim joined the denominational offices in Chicago. The couple retired to White Bear Lake, MN, in 1995.
Alyce was preceded in death by her husband Rev. James Hawkinson and is lovingly survived by her children: Judy (Bob) Stromberg, Hugo, Minnesota; Eric (Patty) Hawkinson, Turlock, CA; Mary (Bob) Manning, Minneapolis, MN; Peter (Bonnie) Hawkinson, Wilmette, II; and Paul (Kristin) Hawkinson, Green Oaks, II; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Anyone who knew Alyce was blessed by her servant heart and a warm welcoming and gracious spirit.
