Alice (RUTH) Irwin, age 102 of Fridley, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Etha Ferguson; loving husbands Lyde (Mark) Irwin and Claire Stenson; daughters Lavonne Kranz and Marie Miller; son Russell Irwin; and great-grandchild Russell Joseph Moore. She is survived by her two sons Tom (Melodie) and Loren (Peggy) as well as 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many loving relatives and friends. Ruth was born in Corydon, IA, oldest of 11 siblings and spent her childhood on the Ferguson farm near Luray, MO. Ruth attended high school in Madison, IA. Then she moved to Chicago, IL to attend Northwestern University where she met Mark and married at the start of WWII. They raised their 5 children between their farm in Bloomfield, IA and their home in Minneapolis. Ruth was widowed while still raising 3 of her children and sadly lost her oldest son Russ months after losing Mark. After raising her children, she spent her days caring for others as a licensed nurse. During her retirement, she remarried and enjoyed traveling and spending time at the lake. After her husband Claire passed, she spent her days sewing quilts at the community center and tending to her community garden in Fridley. Ruth will be remembered as having a kind and loving soul.
