Aasiya Abdul-Wahid was a beautiful spirit with a brilliant smile and sparkling eyes. She was kind-hearted, brave, fiercely loyal, and protective of her family and friends. A gifted athlete with a love of diving and softball, she also enjoyed baking, listening to music, snapping selfies, dancing on the pool deck, playing with her dog, Pretty Baby, and spending time at Emma's camper. She was smart, silly, fun, full of life and promise, yet also deeply sad within.
On Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the age of 15, Aasiya made the decision to end her own life and on Monday, November 14th, she was removed from life support. In honor of her dearest friend, Emma Willcox, Aasiya's final act of kindness was to give the ultimate gift of life through organ and tissue donation. It is our hope that the beauty and love which resided in Aasiya's body will live on through others.
Aasiya is survived by her parents, siblings, and many loving relatives and friends.
A visitation and celebration of Aasiya's life will be held from 6-8PM on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Hwy 65 NE in Fridley. This will be a celebration of Aasiya's life, not a formal funeral or service – simply an opportunity for people to see her, reminisce, share memories, and say goodbye.
